History of Alpha Delta Gamma



  • Alpha Delta Gamma was founded on October 10, 1924

  • It happened when four undergraduates at Loyola University in Chicago decided to build a union of men based upon the principles and ideals of Ignatius Loyola, Francis Xavier, and Issac Joques.

  • The "Founding Four," Francis Patrick Canary, John Joseph Dwyer, William S. Hallisey, and James Collins O'Brien, Jr., wanted to bring to the campus of Loyola University an organization unlike any other existing at that time.

  • Alpha Delta Gamma is Founded on Five Basic Principles, known as the Five S's:
    1. Spiritual
    2. Scholastic
    3. Service
    4. School Spirit
    5. Social

  • The purpose of Alpha Delta Gamma is to unite congenial minded men in a brotherhood of love and high respect; to develop the highest Christian ideals of manhood among its members; to foster the interests of every institution of learning with which it shall become affiliated; and to promote scholarship amongt its members and their fellow students; and to further promote service of community so as to awaken in ourselves and our fellow man a realization of the Brotherhood of man.

  • The Fraternity Colors are Scarlet Red and Gold

  • The Fraternity flower is the Red Carnation

  • The Fraternity Insect is the Praying Mantis
