National Sweethearts

Every year each Alpha Delta Gamma chapter chooses one special girl who best represents the ideals the Alpha Delta Gamma in every aspect of the 5's. Social, Scholastic, Spiritual, Service, School Spirit. If a girl is found to represent all these qualities she is chosen as the chapter sweetheart. When one becomes an ADG sweetheart, they are a sweetheart for life.

Every summer, Alpha Delta Gamma holds its annual convention. Each chapter provides their sweetheart for consideration to be the National Sweetheart, who then reigns for an entire year. Here now is a brief history into the origins of the Alpha Delta Gamma Sweetheart.

National Sweetheart History

Alpha Chapter presented Miss Jane Carney as the Queen of their Convention Ball on June 18, 1938. This presentation was so well accepted that the National Office authorized the selection of a National Sweetheart beginning in 1939.

The first girl chosen to represent the National Fraternity was selected by the Convention Committee in 1939. She was selected upon the recommendation of the host Chapter. In the following two years, the host Chapter was given the honor of selecting the girl to be presented at the Convention Ball as the National Sweetheart. The first National Sweetheart was Miss Beryl Rabouin of Epislon Chapter, in the year 1939.

The first daughter of an Alphadelt ever selected as National Sweetheart is Miss Paula Fitzsimmons (1962-63), daughter of Paul E. Fitzsimmons, Beta 1933.
