The deadline for English honor society membership applications for Fall 2009 is October 7.  Please contact Dr. Kerrigan to obtain an application form.

The 2009 issue of Infectus, a student journal of the literary and visual arts for the Rockhurst community, is now available online.  Electronic versions of each of Infectus’s published volumes can be downloaded or printed by following the link to infectus in the lefthand menu.  Print copies (while supplies last) will be distributed on campus beginning in August 2009.  Many thanks to Rockhurst student government for funding the printing of volume 5 (2009) of Infectus.

English students and faculty are gearing up for the 2010 International English Honor Society Convention, to be held in St. Louis.  The convention is scheduled for March 17-20 at the Hyatt Regency on the Riverfront.  The convention paper submissions deadline will be in mid-November.  Further information will soon be available at the ΣΤΔ web site (www.english.org).

This year’s “Common Reader” is Chris Abani’s Song for Night.  All ΣΤΔ members and convention participants are invited to read the book in advance of the March 2010 convention.  Abani also happens to be appearing at the Univ. of Kansas in November, by the way.  For information about the book and the Common Reader program, visit the ΣΤΔ web site (www.english.org).

A full complement of literary events in the Kansas City area, including readings by noted authors, dramatic performances, and English-related academic conferences, is periodically updated and featured in the upcoming events page (see link on the menu to the left).

Infectus now seeks submissions and applications for positions on the Editorial Board for the 2010 edition. The Editors seek submissions of poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, and artwork by Rockhurst students, faculty, staff, and alumni (within a 3000 word limit). Please send submissions to Lindsey Griffith  or Dr. John Kerrigan  The submissions deadline for volume six is Feburary 1, 2010.
